Mike Barry is a well respected
Sifu in the Chinese martial arts community both nationally and
inter-nationally. He was on the original executive board of the North
American Chinese Martial Arts Federation and served for six years as
Regional President and Executive Board Member for the USA WuShu / Kung Fu
Federation. Sifu Mike progressed from an amateur boxer and Karate fighter in
the early 60's to licensed full contact trainer in the mid-70's operating
out of San Diego, Ca. Sifu Mike studied various styles of Kung Fu with many
well known masters throughout his 43 years of military and federal
government service. During the late-1970s he trained Navy SEAL Instructors
in the art of Kung Fu and has since traveled with and trained US Navy and
foreign Special Forces, while operating in the field. Mike has been
associated with JOW GA Kung Fu under Sifu Hoy K. Lee since the mid-1980s.
Mike received formal Chinese free-style fight training and Official's
certification at the University of Shanghai in 1995. In Baltimore during
1995, he served as an assistant tournament director for the 1st World
Chinese Martial Arts Tournament held outside of China and was a significant
factor in the success of the Sanda event. Under the direction of Sifu Tai
Yim, Mike developed the rules and subsequent Officials training for
Continuous Light Contact under the AAU and along with Sifu Shawn Liu, has
developed the USA Sanda Officials training program for the USA Traditional
Kung Fu and WuShu Federation. Mike has officiated at two World Tournaments
and continues to officiate in both Internal and External routines. He is an
active member of the JOW GA Kung Fu Association and continues to perform in
Masters exhibitions throughout the country. He is a retired Naval Officer
(Submarine Service) and a retired decorated senior Naval Intelligence
civilian. Mike holds a B.S. degree in Ed. from Southern Illinois University.
